All About Whales

Woman A  -  What's being done to save endangered species like the

                     whale?

Woman B  -  Ardent conservationists and marine biologists have

                     enforced a rigid ban on whale-hunting.

Woman A  -  Yes, but I read that the Soviet Union and Japan have

                     blatantly ignored  the ban and have methodically continued

                     hunting and killing the whale.

Woman B  -  That's terrible. Did you know that whale herds need a ten

                     year moratorium to regenerate.

Woman A  -  It's all a matter of public opinion. A lot of publicity can

                     generate sympathy and interest to the sad plight of the

                     whale.

אשה א'  -  מה נעשה על מנת להציל זנים שנמצאים בסכנת הכחדה, כמו 

               למשל הלוויתן?

אשה ב'  -  שומרי טבע נלהבים וביולוגים ימיים הפעילו חוקים נוקשים

               האוסרים על צייד לוויתנים.

אשה א'  -  כן, אבל קראתי שבריה"מ ויפן התעלמו באופן בוטה מהאיסור,

               ובאופן שיטתי ממשיכים לדוג ולהרוג לוויתנים.

אשה ב'  -  זה איום. הידעת שלעדרי לוויתנים דרושה תקופה של עשר שנים

               להתחדשות?

אשה א'  -  זה הכל ענין של דעת קהל. הרבה פרסום יכול ליצור אהדה

               והתענינות במצב החמור והעצוב של הלוויתן.
